DrChrisMD
Hey, I'm looking for a fairly inexpensive wood for my first project guitar. What's good for a solidbody?
noodle_world
alder, agathis, and basswood
skibum5545
Alder is the best "cheap" tonewood, but if you can't get alder, poplar is ultra cheap and sounds okay. Often times mahogany isn't too expensive, and it too is a good tonewood that looks good under a clear finish.
guitar_ed
Before suggesting a wood, I would like to know what you are attempting to accomplish. Are you trying to make an LP or a Strat? Either guitar would require different woods, thus different costs. Guitar Ed
