BassGod
Hi there, Long time lurker, first time poster! I was checking out the threads on ebonizing rosewood and was wondering, have any of you done one already inlayed with composite / plastic inlays? I'm worried I may tint them in some way. Thanks for any assistance.
Brian
Welcome to the forum BassGod While no I haven't I would think in the polishing process you would rub all the remaining stain off of the plastic. Just a thought, not proven by any means
daveq
I haven't tried it with rosewood but I have used that stewmac dye for ebony boards which were a bit brown. I do it as the last step (after inlay and radiusing/levelling). The dye does not adhere to MOP inlay - I can't say if it will on plastic but I doubt it. It would be easy to test though. BassGod
Thanks for the welcome Brian I had heard of it used on necks with binding and thought I should be safe, but figured better to ask than make my guitar a instant "experiment"! Thank again for the advice gentlemen.
Brian
Always best to experiment on scrap first anyway to get a feel and see the results without having to deal with a problem on the real deal

www
I've used the vinger and steel wool in a jar idea (let it sit for a few weeks or longer), and it stained the wood nicely. I just wiped it on and buffed it with a clean rag. The plastic inlay was not harmed at all. I made a big jar to last along time and my dear wife tossed it.
