sjaguar13
All I ever did was put sucky guitars back together the way they were new. I'm thinking about doing some inlays, but I am wondering how hard it will be. Do I have to route out the inlay perfectly, or can there be a little gap? Will the epoxy and final clear coat seal that up, or make it more obvious? I wanted to do little skulls, but I can't find that template anymore. Brian
The tighter you route it out the better it will look up close but there is no rule to go by when doing inlays for the most part other than doing the undercut along the edge so they don't pop out. Check your E-mail the Inlay templates were moved to the special download section for advanced support members.
sjaguar13
I don't really understand the undercut either. Is it like an edge of wood left to hold the inlay in, but how would you get it in? Also, if I take a neck and put some custom inlays in and get rid of the dots, would I spray a clear coat over it? Should I strip it before doing the inlays? Thanks, Justin
Scott Rosenberger
The undercut gives the glue/epoxy somewhere to go when you press in the inlay material. It then hardens and keeps the inlay from popping out
