Help Me With Warmoth Neck Woods

Recommended Posts

I want a really really hardwood neck from warmoth. They have only two options for this Indian rosewood like George Harrison Tele or Something called Palisander Rosewood...

I want a really bright and snappy neck almost freakish snappy, I am thinking closed grain wood like bloodwood with ebony board, or maybe something else? What are your guys thoughts?

Don't want to use maple again want a wood that does not require a finish.... Wenge might be ok..

Drak? you buy from warmoth right?

I would try solid wenge or wenge with an ebony board. That should get you the sound you're describing, at least from the neck.

I have a couple Rosewood necks that I love, but they dampen the highs and the attack you're after due to their oiliness. They are not bright or snappy. One has an Ebony board and is one of my favorite necks, and the other is a one piece, and very warm.

Instead of Warmoth, my recommendation is to pick the wood you want, purchase a good blank (preferably in person), then send it off to Tommy at USA Custom Guitars for him to make the neck. He gives you all kinds of options as far as radius, back contour and headstocks at no up-charge, and the fretwork will be much better than Warmoth.

Only problem...expect to wait like 8-10 weeks for it. But it will be worth it in the end. Email Tommy, he's a really cool guy, talk over with him what you'd like, what dimensions the blank needs to be etc, then go that way.

I have seen tommy's stuff really nice but 10wks is not an option. got a palisander rosewood neck, not really what I wanted in terms of hardness but they don't do all bloodwood necks.

next neck will be bloodwood.

I only paid 300 bucks for a one piece fatback... what a steal.
