wingman Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 hey, im not sure if this is in the right fourm but whatever. I have no "know-how" when it comes to guitar repair, so please bear with me. I have strat copy and the trussrod poboly needs to be adjusted because the strings get further from the neck as u go down the neck. So i tried to adjust the trussrod to the right to tighten it, but nothing would happen.?? so i shook the neck and i can hear a ratteling in the headstock/neck where u can adjust the rod. so i dont now whats wrong with it. It is totally unplayable because the strings are so far from the frets that its not in tune. Like i can tune the strings open but when i start playing on the frets it gets worse the further i go up the neck (12-22). i would rely appercatie the help. thans alot Quote
Devon Headen Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 Look on the main page (projectguitar.com), go to tutorials, and look for the one on set-up. I've never read it, but I'm assuming it probably covers everything you'll need. Read it and use the info, and if there's still a problem, let us know. You'll be able to articulate the problem a little better by them, too. Quote
wingman Posted November 13, 2004 Author Report Posted November 13, 2004 The tutorials dont mention the problem im haveing. Its like when im turning the truss rod, its very loose and it seems to just "spin" and not grab to tighten it. maybe it disconected or broken? i dont rely want to bring it into a shop thats 3 hours away maybe thers somthing i coud do. This guitar is going to be a Frankenstrat by the way, so i will be taking the neck off to paint it, so mabye if i take the neck off, will i be able to see the problem better, or somthing? thanx again Quote
Devon Headen Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 if the truss rod adjusts at the headstock, then taking the neck off won't do anything. Sounds like your rod might be stripped. If you're tightening it and there's no resistance and no neck movement, that's probably the problem. It possibly could be the nut that is stripped. Completely remove the adjuster nut, and look to see if it's stripped. If it is, you can replace the nut and be good to go. If it's not stripped, check the actual truss rod for threads. If it's stripped, you'll have to replace the rod. Quote
