daveq Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 I wish I had a picture of this to help explain. I was looking at my RG550 the other day and noticed that the frets don't actually reach the edges of the neck. I'm talking about the part of the fret that sits above the fretboard (the crown). They stop just short of the edges. I can't tell if the tang is also cut short (or even shorter than the crown). Is this just due to the wood expanding or do they intentionally cut them this way? LGM Guitars Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 That would most likely be wood expanding, you'd have to cut and polish every fret individually before installation to make them sit inside the fretboard edge. Quote
daveq Posted November 30, 2004 Author Report Posted November 30, 2004 That's what surprised me - I wondered how they did it so accurately. I guess with machinery it wouldn't be so impossibly hard but it seemed a bit more trouble than it would be worth. Thanks for the info. Quote
