I recently installed a Stew-Mac/Bill Lawrence humbucking pickup in a guitar. The pickup is wired directly to the volume pot, no switch, no capacitors. According to the wiring diargrams it's wired correctly, but when I turn down the volume, the tone seems to be turning down with it. Any ideas why this is happening?

Thanks,

TMC

like wes said it happens. some people put a small capacitor across the volume pot lugs to counteract this. the other alternative if you really want is to put active circuitry inside which can get around it but thats a whole new kettle of fish

Like Johnny said, a 100-150 pF cap connected between the pickup lead and the jack lead on the volume pot should eliminate most of your problems. This was a feature of almost all the Telecasters made in the 50s, and seems to work even better with humbuckers (thanks again, Leo).
