Moreau
I spoke to someone who had some 40 year old walnut. he builds archtops ithink. He told me it was a combination of quartersawn and flatsawn. I am curious as to what this wood would be like for a body, and if its worth using? ibreakemineedtobuildem
I've built a Solidbody strat out of walnut and I love it. It's LOUD and heavy. The sound is a midrange-snap.It has some twang. Did I mention it's LOUD. I can't say what it would sound like with high gain applications but clean tone and mid gain are nice. I'll use Walnut again for sure.
Moreau
does the fact that its part quarter part flat sawn just mean the grain will be angled? how can I balance that out? turn the other half the other way? Thanks
www
Part quarter and part flat sawn I believe would be RIFT sawn which is acceptable to use for a body. I built a walnut bodied strat style body and I wish I never sold it! It is nice to work with and IMO sounds great.
Moreau
Anyone know of the figure and whatnot of riftsawn wood? is its quality less? is the figue good to look at? And what type of laminating should i do with the grain? should i flip the one side around to somewhat make it symmetrical? of should i take a 2 inch piece and bookmatch it and add 2 laminates? im confused still
