Skit Posted December 14, 2004 Report Posted December 14, 2004 Hi I want to fill in the space on my bass where the electronics and pickups where. I was wondering what is the best material to use? I've tried various kinds of filler but I need to fill in a hole about 15mm deep and about 200mm long so the filler just remains soft and wont set. Any one of you know what I should use for this job? Thanks Quote
Marzocchi705 Posted December 14, 2004 Report Posted December 14, 2004 Im not too sure, but i think getting a peice of wood of the same type as your bass, cutting it to the size and thikness you need then glue it in. Then you only need to fill anysmall gaps. Quote
Wasabi J Posted December 14, 2004 Report Posted December 14, 2004 Did you try layering in the filler, maybe a 1/4" at a time? That may help. Also, you could try to use saw dust packed in and then fill in the last 1/4" or so. Just my ideas. One last one is using a precisely cut wood plug. Quote
Mickguard Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 How about covering it with a plate or pickguard...you could dress it up with a graphic... you could also try to fashion a cover that fits the hole--route out the sides a bit to give it a shelf, then glue it into place Quote

I hope you take this OK. 1. layering is good, wood filler for guiitars is not. So that is the 1st problem I see with his doing. 2. a plug. Best idea you have posted so far! There is a tutorial in the main site about this, you should have posted a link to that link , this is for a trem to hardtail, but it will work for what he wants. 3. Saw dust packed... Are you for real! I have always used automotive bondo, so has a lot of people here, with no draw back. Make sure it's filler and not glazing putty. And your signature! whatever! Quote
