Primal
Whats so funny, Drak? The fact that this thread has gone from an "Are you in a band?" thread to "The Entire History of Metal and Punk Music with a side emphasise on music genre's as a whole"? haha
Drak
No. The fact that he said he is a metal guy, not a punk, but pulled a totally punk move by requoting the whole thing. It was funny. Score 1 Punks. PS, none of the Ramones I ever heard talked with a fake british accent. So THERE!

silvertonessuckbutigotone
okay heres what i've learned about the genres so farhardcore is a type of music, not pornmetal core is hardcore with out the hard and plus the metalthrash and crust have a sign below them that says thrash zone (thrashncrusts avatar)the guy (R2D2F150 guy) with the winged thing in his avatar has a serial number as a nicknamedeicide means to kill god (its a band)theres over 7,000,000 genres of metalthrashncrust thinks he knows his stuff (im not sure if he does or not, i know nothing about metal or punk)R2D2F150 thinks he knows his stuff about genres (i dunno if he does or not, i dont know anything about metal or punk)the ramones had a fake british accentmaybe the one above is false, drak says sosoftcore might/mightnot be a genre, you never know, (my rule of thumb: if its a type of porn its a genre of music, e.g. "hey johnny did u hear that new Latina Band Flavorita?" another e.g. "Dude, i love that new hardcore band, its called "behind closed doors"")thats about it ...everything else (motions something flying over my head) **zzzhoooom** Edited December 24, 2004 by silvertonessuckbutigotone
Southpa
MY favorite metal bands are nausea, heartburn, indigestion, upsetstomach and diarheeea. (I think thats what I'm getting from this thread!) Its a new "genre" called gastric metal. Back to the topic, nope, not in a band, never was. But I've sure jammed with a lot of folks in the past, mostly on acoustic. I always managed to work things out with different instruments like fiddle, banjo, accordian, saxomophone, harmonica and even one guy who played the spoons like nobody's business! And, of course, more guitar players than I can remember. Sometimes things work out instantly and other times we just traded off songs, put the guitars back in their cases, and drank beer. westhemann
of course you havent heard of crust, you obviously arent into enough punk to listen or hear of crust, power metal has never been hair metal anyway, and forbidden doesnt have to sound like metallica and i never said they did, theres different sounds to thrash, my man. exodus, kreator, forbidden, metallicas first album. plus, its FORBIDDEN , not THE FORBIDDEN, forbidden , get your thrash metal bands straight bud. no one cares about nu metal because it sucks and is over played, everyone knows what it is. the power metal bands i named are power metal, theres no doubt about it. power metal is melodic metal pertaining usually to dark ages/fantasy stuff. yes, music does change, but when what hardcore use to be goes to what it is now, thats not even hardcore any more. do yourself a favor and go listen to some hardcore bands... like spazz, floorpunch, discharge, mdc (thanks for reminding me drak) , also, go check out the power metal bands i named, go check out some crust bands too. we arent arguing, this is debating. i obviously know my music, im sure you do too wow...an elitist metalhead haha...i have been loving metal as long as ANY of you...and i have to say that metal in MY day was not about pigeonholing tiny little genres or debating the differences in them in order to show you know more about metal than someone else. it was about high gain amps with hot rodded guitars playing heavy riffs mostly based on alot of palm muting with furiously paced guitar solos thrown in for good measure. everything else varies...but that stays the same and since also in my day we were fighting to be accepted as good people and to convince others that we weren't evil because we listened to metal...it would be nice to not hear actual metalheads perpetuating the myth that any metal solely relies on satanic imagery for lyrical content.no doubt some bands do...but if there is a "special category" for that sort of thing, then it is something that was created specifically to pigeonhole certain bands, and if you take the lyrical content out of the equation, you will find that what you guys call "black metal" falls right in with alot of other metal genres seamlessly... westhemann
deicide means to kill god (its a band) actually it means "the death of all gods" that includes hero worship of any type maybe the one above is false, wes says so when did i say anything about the ramones? by the way...have any of you looked up these "genres" in a ditionary? didn't think so...because there are no cut and dried definitions for any of them
AlGeeEater
For any of those who wanted a sound clip, go Here A tab boring, i know. silvertonessuckbutigotone
wow great link but im sure theres a site debating with that site or something of that nature because wes is right, no genre is black and white, thats why its music and there is no black white area in music only different shades of gray. westhemann
AND as soon as everyone starts to go by those definitions new bands are going to come along and you will have to fit them somewhere...and maybe they will cross over your little genres and you will have to come up with another lame name for that one..(i mean come on!!!! screamo???????what kind of poser came up with that one????) Stalefish
Answering the post, I play in a band.. We call ourselves Drummer Girl Porn and if you click the name, you get our site.. We don't play metal.. Actually, we're still trying to figure out what we play..
Crazy Carl
Played in a band, briefly, about 2 yrs. ago. Buncha old-ish guys (I'll be 35 next week & I was the 2nd youngest in the band) playin' modern heavy rock for grins- Disturbed, Stereomud, SOD, Nickelback, Godsmack, etc., just for grins & the excuse to rock out on the weekends. Hated that that fell apart. Mucho fun.
skye
Well, I'm not really- my other guitarist friend and my drummer are both movin @ da end of the school year down here (a real drag) so the lil band we had (bass-less I might add!) is over. I'm just woodsheddin right now (Zakk Wylde and Van Halen mostly... but still fighting for my holy grail of all songs, "Red House" from the Isle of Wight Festival) until I can find some new guys to work with. There's lots of talent around here... but most of em are a buncha smokin, drinkin, generally messed up lot.
