Moreau
I have a used neck off a jackson JJ bass, and it had Hipshot Ultralite tuners on it. What are my options on new ones? I dont want to spend much as this bass may be a gift. (if done on time) can I drill out the holes? Theyre 9/16" now. most are 11/16" right? also will the footprint of the tuner be the same size? like will i have enough room to mount standard sized tuners? thanks Edited December 23, 2004 by Moreau
skibum5545
First of all, what's wrong with the ultralites? Second, what color are they? Third, how much are you selling them for? The holes are probably 5/8" right now, as that is what hipshots use. Other tuners ("full size") use 11/16".
Moreau
it doesnt have the tuners i bought just the neck, forgetting that it had ultralites. Can i drill out the holes? will this take away too much wood? as theere isnt much space. the headstock is small. they say 9/16" on the hipshot page. skibum5545
Well, you physically can drill out the holes, and if there's enough room on the headstock, you'll be fine. Just consider that you'll be losing 1/8" of wood between each of the holes, and if you're cool with that, go for it. It may be 9/16"; Warmoth drills 5/8" for those tuners.
