Fluke
Hi there, If found a rare pickup I need for my project bass on ebay. But the seller doesnt know what position its supposed to be. I was wondering how one could tell them apart. I'm thinking its a neck pickup because its a soap bar and only 5-6 Ohms.

lovekraft
Well, at 5 or 6 ohms, I'd be tempted to say it's a speaker. Any info on brand name, source, etc.? If it's 5 or 6 kilohms, I would assume it's a vintage-style (ie., not very hot) single coil, and should be suitable for either position. Fluke
Its actually a vintage bass humbucker. And actually pretty high output for the ohms, I have no idea why though.
LukeR
Hi, just a stab in the dark... but werent the old Gibson bass pickups high (almost unusable) output? (I mean the original 335-looking basses.) If it has a serial number, you could try entering it into the Gibson sites serial number search (I did this with my P90, and I got a hit). Just an idea, Luke
