slayer63636
I recently was digging thru my shed looking for my pop rivet gun and i came across a pice of cedar wood(it had a tag on it). it looks like it would make a good bolt on neck. well what i want to know is there been anyone who has made a neck of out this wood? i found a site that said : "Tonal Signature: More Mellow than Sitka Spruce, ( rounder ) less transparent & less separation. Excellent choice for Chambered Bodies, or to be used as a top in conjunction with a very dense and hard body. ( Think maple body with a mahogany-type sounding top )" and as far as Stability it said that it was good. the site i used was http://www.rampartguitars.com/Tonewoods.htm
www
I am pretty sure cedar will not make a good neck. Too soft and I'm not sure it is stable enough. It is used for some tops on acoustic, but that is the extent of what i've seen it used for.
Devon Headen
Yeah, no way cedar is going to work on a neck. I've worked a lot of cedar, but never for instruments. It just doesn't have the beam strength you need. Grab both ends in your hands and push on the middle with your knee. I could work well as a body wood, though.
