unclej Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 the last couple of days i've been learning all i can about speakers. i've got my brain pretty well wrapped around impedence. i understand peak, peak to peak and rms. but when you're working on an amp without the factory specs (my alamo) how do you calculate real output so that you can choose a proper speaker. the chassis says 110 watts. would that be the actual effective output or not? Saber Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 Does it say 110watts output, or 110watts power consumption or anything like that? Where is it indicated, near the power cord, near the power fuse, or near the speaker output? It could be the ac power consumption rather than the output power. Quote
lovekraft Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 Well, with two 5881s in push-pull, you're probably looking at about 35-40 watts rms, which pretty much agrees with the Alamo brand page on Vintage Guitar's website. I think Saber's hit the nail on the head, and the wattage rating of 110 watts is AC power. Call it 50 watts rms to give yourself a fudge factor. Quote
unclej Posted December 30, 2004 Author Report Posted December 30, 2004 thanks...and thanks for the link. by the way, i'm replacing the electrolytics in the ampeg that i've been working on and that should get it out the door. i really appreciate all of the help you guys have been. Quote
lovekraft Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 Just don't forget about us when you're rich and famous, and "doing lunch" with Randall Smith and Lord Valve. Quote
