Blueroomstudios Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 I started my fabric top project yesterday with a Jackson Dinky body from e bay. Got the stripping and sanding done last night and this morning. Got the fabric mounted tonight as well as first coat of S&S. So far it looks really good. I'll have pics tommorow. Quote
Blueroomstudios Posted January 8, 2005 Author Report Posted January 8, 2005 Ok, here are some pics. It was a gloss black Jackson Dinky body. I used the tutorial from Brian Calvert and went with an obviously 80's metal themed look. This is with one coat of brushed on S&S after first trimming of the fabric. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/Blu...os/DSC00324.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/Blu...os/DSC00324.jpg Quote

Blueroomstudios Posted January 8, 2005 Author Report Posted January 8, 2005 with three coats of s&s, with cavities cut out- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/Blu...os/DSC00325.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/Blu...os/DSC00326.jpg Quote
Blueroomstudios Posted January 8, 2005 Author Report Posted January 8, 2005 This is my first attempt at the poor boy burst as described by Brian Calvert. I'm not sure yet if I am happy or not. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/Blu...os/DSC00327.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/Blu...os/DSC00330.jpg Quote
Maiden69 Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 It doesn't look bad, the good thing about this is that if you want areas to be lighter than you have painted you can always sand back the black because you have the sanding sealer underneath and won't damage the fabric. I think you have a bit too much black sweep underneath the template, if that is so, just color sand the areas you want lighter. I like the fabric, do you have an airbrush? It will be better to apply the burst on the edges because you have more control. Quote
Blueroomstudios Posted January 9, 2005 Author Report Posted January 9, 2005 Hey Maiden, Thanks for the reply, I like your work. Yeah I have already sanded back some of the center section to lighten it back up and give more contrast to the burst. I have plenty of sealer on there so sanding is no problem. I don't have an air brush but I'm considering one now. Can you offer any suggestions to the unitiated on airbrushes. Makes, models, size, horsepower etc... Thanks again. Quote
Maiden69 Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 I wouldn't be the one to talk to, LGM (Jeremy) would be the best here! But if you go to the tutorial forum, on his paint tutorials he made some good recomendatios, I am in the look for a set up right now, and will buy as soon as I get my refund money. All I got now is an Aztek cheapo (with a pressure regulator) whick I'm using for water based (createx) paint application. it came realy helpfull in painting my last guitar, especialy the transparent burst on the body with no masking at all. I plan on getting a badger, check here the application chart http://www.badger-airbrush.com/pdf/Catalog...0page%202-3.pdf I might get a 100 sf and the 400 Quote
Blueroomstudios Posted January 9, 2005 Author Report Posted January 9, 2005 Thanks man, I guess it's time to put some money aside. Quote
