thrashncrust
ok, i wired my guitar up a couple of days ago using a diagram on this one site, forgot the name. i did it for 2 hum, 3way and a volume pot. it didnt work, while i was fiddling around with it, i found it it worked if i had a piece of wire connecting the two tabs on the pot (not ground) but the actual volume control didnt work. i have a dimarzio and a jackson pickup, DM is 4 wire and the jackson is two. please someone draw me out or point me to a diagram that works. i also need help on grounding it right. hopefully have some helpful posts by tomorrow noon. thanks for your help in advance
lovekraft
Try this one http://guitarelectronics.zoovy.com/product/WDUHH3T1101 Just delete the tone pot and cap. If that doesn't fix it, you may have a bad pot. On the DiMarzio, red goes to the switch, black and white get tied together and taped off, and green and shield go to ground. The Jackson should be obvious. Solder all the ground leads (including the bridge ground) to the back of the volume pot. That's it- if you follow those instructions, and your parts are not defective, it will work correctly.
thrashncrust
thank you, btw, if the solder aint stickin, whats the problem
lovekraft
If you're talking about the back of the pot, try roughing the surface with some fine sandpaper or an emery board - they're often coated with anti-corrosives, and it interferes with the soldering process. Flux might help as well.
thrashncrust
this is pissing me off, nothing is sticking at all, even the the little piece where the springs are on for the tremolo. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lovekraft
Sounds like you're not getting things hot enough - for a good joint, the wires have to be hot enough to melt the solder so it will flow out and adhere. Don't set fire to anything, but do heat it up enough to get things flowing, and hold it still until the solder has completely cooled. I use clamps, alligator clips, rubber bands or whatever to hold things in place whenever I can. This is one of the reasons the Internet's not so great - there's probably 100 or more guys on this board who could show you exactly what's wrong and how to fix it instantly if they were looking over your shoulder, but at this distance it's all educated guesswork. thrashncrust
well i got it working, it was getting hot enough to melt, but it just was beading like water and not sticking, but it seemed my tip of my iron need to be tinned
