martynm
I'm posting this again as i stupidly posted it in the acoustic forum by mistake! Hopefully someone will be able to help out with some trouble i am having with a bass guitar at the moment. I'm trying to set up my friends washburn 4 string bass. But no matter what i do i cannot set the intonation on the E string. it sounds really badly out of tune when playing up the neck. I've tried to adjust it but the string is always playing sharp at the 12th. The string is tuned dropped D, would this maybe be the cause of the trouble? Or could it be a problem with the neck? If anyone has any suggestions that i could try to sort this problem that would be great. Martyn
G_urr_A
I've tried to adjust it but the string is always playing sharp at the 12th. Sounds to me like you're either adjusting in the wrong direction, or you've run out of adjustment space... But I don't know. It should not be the drop D tuning. It could be a neck problem, but it shouldn't be. Selling a neck that bad is something they shouldn't be able to get away with.
martynm
Yeah i've run out of space to adjust the string and it is still playing sharp at the 12th. Any idea how i could solve this? will the neck need adjusted? Cheers Martyn
bassman
change the string, that may take care of the problem. good luck. i have had this happen to me, changing the string can often fix the problem.
