Duff Beer Man
Well im building a jem and the template i bought doesnt have the loins claw laid out on it. I know there is a tut on how to do one but im just curious in your guys eyes how hard are they to do. Not only that but what do they do exactly? Is it just a look thing? GregP
Loins claw? That's gotta hurt!
marksound
I'm wondering if Vai thinks that the individual grooves might limit side to side movement of the trem when he pulls up. I don't really see why it would, but he's been right about everything else ...

frank falbo
They're just for looks. The only time I've ever done them is when I was using a copy carver. I don't think it's worth all the effort if you have to do it by hand, but that's because I had the pleasure of using the copy carver! It's not that it's impossible or anything, but if you aren't fluent in sculpting with a Dremel it might be a recipe for disaster. You can simulate them by using a cove bit and make a single depth slot, rather than the sloping depth of the original.
