Maiden69
Do a search you will find a lot of info on scalloping, read the tutorial, the one for the last 4 and the one for the hole neck, he points out the things to look for and tips. rockthe40
i dont know what all came up in your search so ill just tell you what i do. take the strings off, mask the fret bars/wire with 2 layers of tape, and go at it with a 1/4" round file. then sand the wood a little with like 320 grit, clean it up with a damp cloth, then put some lemon oil on there. tell all your friends and tell them to tell their friends what you can do... i can make a good $20-30 for about 2 hours worth of work just scalloping and cleanin up the fretboard
Maiden69
^^^ Very nice, 20-30 for 2 hrs of disaster! There is more to it than what you just mentioned, look at the tutorial on the main site, learn and then do it, if you only sand to 320 is going to look like a POS. See this I did the same thing the tutorial said, step by step, sanded to 600, wetted, and sanded back to 600 3 times. to get all the grain to raise and out of the way, (I did the same thing at 320) and after this I sanded 800-1000-1500 and 2000. Ince this was done, I took a buffing wheel with lemon oil on the fret board and polished it. Go ahead and charge 20-30 for a job halfassed. ToneMonkey
← Tasty. Wish I had that sort of patience.......mmm.......where's that angle grinder
Maiden69
Patience grasshopper that's all it takes, (unless you want to do the inlay job once you are done with the scallops.
Devon Headen
I've only tried one scallop (before I had any idea what I was doing). I had plenty of patience, but it still didn't turn out half that good. It was only 12 and up, though. My biggest problem was going too deep. You really don't need to go very far to have a radical difference in feeling.
