Mr Harry
i just took a guitar apart, and noticed the whole thing was covered in silver paint. i noticed it before lining the inside if the (electronics compartment) of an ibanez, and figured that it was conductive, something to do with the grounding or something. then i took apart another guitar, and realised that the whole body is covered inderneath the white finish. even in the neck pocket. is this something important? some fundamental that i have missed? or am i being stupid? jer7440
Could it just be primer?
zephyr7
I'm an idiot myself. I think the silver paint is conductive paint. Not sure about the white though. Maybe it's sort of primer or sealer. I'm sure the pros here will clarify this soon enough.
Mr Harry
no, no, its a white guitar. whats primer?(yes im an idiot). the silver is everywhere. with the white only on the bits that show. i just thaught it might have a vital role in the electronics or something. daveq
That's the shielding paint. Good stuff. Some people do it with copper foil tape but a lot of manufacturers use the paint instead. I've been using the stewmac paint for a while and have had good results (and fewer cuts in my hands).

Devon Headen
But he said it was on the entire guitar. If it was just the control cavity, I'd definitely say it was shielding, but shielding the entire body?
