Im making a guitar with 2 humbuckers and a single coil in the middle of them, and i was wondering can i put a telecaster style neck pickup in the middle instead of a normal single coil? ive never seen this in any other guitars though, so im wondering if theres a reason not to do it?

any help much appreciated

thanks

In my humble opinion, there is nothing special about the Tele single pickup that you can't get out of any other pickup unless you want to cram a Hot Rail Bridge Tele in there. Lots of extra routing and the Hot Rail Strat unit is probly just as HOT!!! Oddly, I haven't put a Hot Rail in a Strat-style yet so I can't say for sure.

The neck pickup is definately nothing to write home about. Just a good rythym pickup.

I have one guitar with a tele neck pup in the middle, just for looks. I mean it's hooked up and everything, but the guitar has all chrome harware, solid (no holes) chrome covered humbuckers, rings, etc. So it fits with the look. It's not a good sound, however. It's a Duncan alnico, and the way tele neck pickups usually sound is smooth and round. I like a middle pickup to be bright and sharp sounding. So until I figure something else out, I'm keeping it there. Maybe a stack or something, or even a thin, bright Asian factory tele neck pickup would to better as a middle than this Duncan. (if anyone wants to trade + cash the duncan for a stock factory asian let me know)

Any particular reason why you'd want to do that? (I'm asking sincerely, by the way.. Curious to know.. :D)
