Laz
Hey doods...first time poster here, I've got a question that's been burning me for a while. Hopefully someone can help me out. Where do you set a trem in relation to the neck on a guitar? I know the distance between the nut and 12th fret should be the same as the 12th fret to the string saddle...but obviously individual saddles can be adjusted. Sooo...where do you measure to? Do you measure to the centre point of the distance the saddle can move forwards/backwards? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
doug
Rule of thumb is to bring your high E string saddle out most of the way and measure from that. That string will usually be right on or just a hair longer than your scale length. Don't go excessivly far out though because you might only need to bring it back in 1/32 or so. Then you'll have room on your bridge to bring the remaining saddles back as needed. Hope that helps. -Doug
Laz
Thanks for your reply...just to clarify a couple of things...by high E do you mean the lowest (wound string) or the non-wound string? And by bringing the saddle out you mean pushing it further away from the neck, correct?
westhemann
And by bringing the saddle out you mean pushing it further away from the neck, correct? no... doug is saying move the saddle of the high e as close to the neck as it will go(high e is of course the small one) and then place the bridge so that saddle as the string crosses it is exactly at the scale length. but this topic has been beaten to death over the last couple of years. if you do a search on bridge placement or other similar ways of saying it,you will find all the informaton you need
