Vintage Strat Finishes?

Since this is my 1rst post, Hello

Im wanting a vintage hardtail strat but dont have the "bling bling" So I have decided to build one. Well the only problem with that is the same problem that I have with my other strats. The newer poly finished dont wear well.

I dont want a relic, however I want to finish the guitar so its just like if I bought it back in the day. I want to wear it myself. Make any sense?

So what im looking for is what do I need to do to finish a the body and neck just like in the good ole days? Any good websites for this ? I have experience finishing wood to a extent. (grew up in my grandpas cabinet shop).

Im looking at getting the body and neck from Warmoth or WD. Are there any other good parts sites im missing?

I thank everyone for any help regarding this! And I will keep everyone updated with pics.

I just did a saga tele kit. I sealed it with white shellac. Then hit it with metallic gold undercoat. Then three coats of Inca gold, a copper sort of burnt orange. Then ten coats of clear gloss nitro lacquer. I havent't rubbed it ourt'cause it hasn't cured yet but it looks three feet deep. I think that's what you want. This stuff is all automotive product that i bought from a local specialty paint supplier. The stuff is real Candyapple Metalflake and a little pricey but worth it. it comes in any color you could want and varies according to the color undercoat you use. Look at the metalflake.com website.

Done right htis stuff will look like you pulled your new puppy out of a time machine.

Wow that site was deep.....whew Let me strech my mind for a min..whew.

Im just wanting to do a strat as close to as how they were built in 56'-57' Probaly going to go with a 2 tone sunburst or black. Which brings me to my next questions

1. how hard is it to do a nice two tone 50's strat style sunburst

2. Does anyone sell sunburst bodys without any finsh on them? If that makes any sense.

I could just get a Custom Shop strat from fender but theres no way im paying for a strat from them and I dont think they offer what im looking for.

Just want to build the closest thing that I can to as if I went in a guitar shop in 57' and took one off the wall.
