I am building my first guitar which I am planning on finishing with a solid colour but I also wish to bind the body. I assume that to do so I would cut the binding channels, paint the body, apply the binding and then put the clear finish on, in that order. Is that correct?

My second question is: would I need to cut the binding channels a little shallow to compensate for the build up of paint to get the binding flush with the body and if so how much would I have to allow?

Thanks in advance to all who reply. Any tips are welcome.

Route the binding channel, bind & scrape flush, colour coat then scrape binding clear of any bleeding, and colour coat. Extra coats of clear may be required to get rid of any ridge left by the colour coats. I find this step incredibly tedius, but it is worth it.
