earnava, but small neck

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Here's my problem. My guitar is being very stubborn about staying in tune on the lower frets. I'm sure you've all heard it before, tune to open chords and it's out of tune up the neck.....and vice versa. I've been looking at the Earvana (www.earvana.com) system and have it on a strat and it works wonders. Problem is, the guitars neck is a small 1 9/16" width, smaller than any offered by earvana. I've contacted them about a smaller neck but there's been no asnwer yet. My question is....are there any other known work arounds for this problem, or aparent causes? Since the nut is so small the grooves were not pre-filed so i've done my best and believe they are at correct depths. This is a huge pain and makes the guitar unusable at times.

Any suggestions welcomed.

Thanks

-Anthony

Hi Anthony, welcome to the forum!

Wouldn't it be possible to use the 1-5/8" one and just take 1/32" off each side so it matches the width of the neck, it would spread your strings out 1/32" on each end compaired to where they are right now so it may feel more like your strat but that way with very little modification it could be done with either sand paper or a file. Or are your High and Low E riding the edge already?

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the response.

The strings are not riding to close to the edge, so it is a possiblity. I know that Earvana state many times on the website not to sand or file the top piece of the nut, but i'm not sure if they are refereing to the bottom, since that would affect the height. So, filing or sanding the sides, may be an option.

alot cheaper way is to just move the nut forward a tad and set up the intonation for tempered tuning..... i have the specs if you want to try it yourself..

ok well i stumbeled onto this when i was reading up on the buzz feiten tunning system, i was trying to find the equations and intonation offsets, so i could use them at home for personal use only, hence not infringing on the patent buzz currently has, so only read on if you agree to use the following for personal use only!!! if you want to do this for other people and charge them then you have to buy a liscence to do so, but it's free to discuss these things, cause they're freely available on the patent office's web site.

so before i post them i should just make sure, does anyone object ?

lol thank's brian, i sent it to the 2 before the last two here.. lol.... ya, but we should keep things "under the table" just incase.... don't want to go to jail over a guitar.... although i am in canada.... so i'd like to see them try and arrest me with the border being a province away.. so ya, everyone just keep forwarding it to whom ever, but remember, for personal use only, and you can't reproduce it for profit.... so if you run a storel, you can't advertise it, but if someone wants it done you can do it for free :D
