Millo Posted March 14, 2005 Report Posted March 14, 2005 (edited) FIRST OF ALL: I KNOW ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT ELECTRICITY OR ELECTRONICS... I'm reading a book on the subject (more on their way here) to see if can get to understand a bit on the subject before the guitar parts get here, anyhow.... I want to know how I can achieve this p/up switching configuration w/ either the megaswitch or superswitch sold by Stewmac: --bridge humbucker --two single, outer coils --two humbuckers --neck single, outer coil --neck humbucker I'm not sure if I want that combined 'outer' single coil pos. to be series or parallel. So, if pos. #1 is when the switch is pointing towards the bridge, what I want from what would be pos. #2 (two outer coils) is that 'country-ish', punchy and metallic-y sound, so that just w/ the addition of a bit of compression I'm forcing everyone to dance a two-step. I'm a classical guitarist going back to the electric... have being practicing my alt. picking, sweep arpeggios, etc. on and off for 8 months now. However, in terms of gear, etc. I'm entirely illiterate . When it came to electrics I was always a fan of the fat humbucker sound. So, what's the sound difference between parallel and series single coils? Which one would give me the sound I describe? These are the materials/components I have/plan to get: --a 500k dual concentric volume pot --essentially two pots in one casing, for saving space/avoiding drilling more holes-- from Warmoth (I might get another one from Stewmac along w/ the superswitch, I'm thinking of putting one on my old guitar) to control each p/up independently. I've read that if you add a certain type of capacitor, you don't lose that much treble when rolling off the volume, so maybe I'll add that capacitor there... I guess I'll need one for each vol. pot. What value would I need? --a 250k tone pot, plus capacitor (value recommendation?). --Two Lace Sensor 'Hot Gold' Dually Humbuckers. The Dually is basically two of their 'sensors' together in one package. --the guitar's mahogany body & neck are being built by Carvin, I'm expecting that kit to arrive in about 3-4 weeks. Fixed bridge and locking tuners. I don't want to do any drilling... --a 5-way switch... I guess it'll have to be a "superswitch" So basically, I want w/ this guitar to be very versatile, even for playing those types of music I might not be very fond of, but might get some dough out of, if necessary!!! COULD ANYONE HERE HELP ME OUT AND EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT I NEED TO DO TO GET THIS COMBINATION, ETC.? A WIRING DIAGRAM, SCHEMATICS? PLEASE? Sorry for the annoyingly long post. THANKS! lovekraft Posted March 16, 2005 Report Posted March 16, 2005 OK, here's the switching options you asked for - I haven't figured out the dual volume controls, but this might get you started. Quote
