stonerdan9 Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 Does anyone know anywhere online that I can find a kalamazoo neck for a '67 kalamazoo solid body? Quote
MzI Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 Gonna need a lil more info then that, what body shape material etc, generally its harder to find pre made set necks because there are quite a few different ways to make the pocket MzI Quote
stonerdan9 Posted April 18, 2005 Author Report Posted April 18, 2005 Alright, its basically one of the first SG's made. I think its made of basswood, but i could be wrong. Its a '67 i think. There is a picture of it on the bottom of this page: Kalamazoo page I have one of the older ones that is on this page and it is awesome. I need a neck for the new one though. Quote
stonerdan9 Posted April 18, 2005 Author Report Posted April 18, 2005 i really want to get an orignal neck. the neck at the heel is 1 3/32" tall and 2 3/16" wide. Also the scale length is 24 21/32". Quote
MzI Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 pics helped quite a bit, cant say that ive heard of that company, looks far more like a fender then a gibson but whatever, id say ebay is your best bet, other then that im affraid i cant help you out MzI Quote
GarageRocker Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 Kalamazoo was Gibson's economy line made from about 1965 to 1969. The SG-shaped model you have was called the KG1. The other body style that looks sort of like a Fender Mustang was called the KG2. The bodies are compressed chipboard, not basswood. The stock pickups were the same single coils as on the Gibson Melody Maker guitars. Gibson never offered replacement necks for sale separately, aside from watching eBay I don't know where you'd find one. There's a site called Everything SG with a forum, they don't have a For Sale section anymore but you could at least ask, you never know what someone might have laying around. Good luck. Quote
stonerdan9 Posted April 20, 2005 Author Report Posted April 20, 2005 thanx for the help, these kalamazoo's are a pain to find stuff for but they play great. The KG2 plays amazingly well. I love it and would never sell it. Quote
Doc Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 Dan, If you have the old neck why don't you take a deep breath, read through some of the posts and tutorials and try making your own. The folks on this site are incredibly helpful and will help you find your way through. I was playing pretty actively when that guitar was new and I can honestly say that I don't recall ever seeing one anywhere. This means that they're probably rare enough tht you're gonna have a devil of a time finding a neck with no guitar attached to it. Just a thought. Quote
stonerdan9 Posted April 20, 2005 Author Report Posted April 20, 2005 Thanx for the advice doc. I thought of that before and I just never really had the confidence to try to make one becuase as we all know the neck is the most difficult part of the guitar to fabricate. Good thought though, couldn't hurt to try. thanx Quote
stonerdan9 Posted April 20, 2005 Author Report Posted April 20, 2005 I also thought that if I could get another either KG1 or KG2 i could use the neck and sell the body. I bought the KG1 originally for parts for the KG2 because the KG1 was disassembled and the body was rough at best. Then I decided to sand the body and make it a shannon hoon (from blind melon) tribute guitar. My aunt is painting it and it is turning out amazingly. I am really anxious to get it put together. Quote
Doc Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 Dan, Another thought: You could probably talk one of the regulars here into banging out a neck or at least doing the hard parts for you. Quote
Devon Headen Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 TO make a perfect fitting neck, whoever builds it (if you hire someone to) will need the body in front of them. So you'll be looking at the price of shipping it back and forth in addition to the neck price. It won't be cheap, but if you love the guitar, you might want to go for it. Quote
