il1019 Posted May 27, 2005 Report Posted May 27, 2005 I got a squier a few weeks ago, and im ashamed of the decal. lol. Ive done some mods to it to make it sound good, but the decal just makes it look bad. I want to just take it off, whats the easiest way to do that? Quote
marksound Posted May 27, 2005 Report Posted May 27, 2005 Dude, there's a guy who shows up at a blues jam every Sunday who brings a different Squier almost every week and blows the roof off the joint. If it sounds good and plays good who gives a damn what the headstock says? But if you're determined, the ones I've seen are screened on. The only way to remove them is to sand down to bare wood. Shamrock Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 If you go the sanding route, you should check out jehle's tutorial in the tutorial section of the main site. It will tell you how to make your own custom headstock logo/decal. It works pretty well, I used it on my 1st build before I decided to begin using gold MOP inlay for my Headstock logo. One word of caution though, if you decide to do that, patience is one thing you will need a lot of. You can't do it in one day and expect it to look professional. You should allow yourself at least 3-5 days to build up enough coats of lacquer to hide the edges of the decal and protect it from the elements (i.e. flying beer, sweat, who knows what all else) That being said, good luck. frank falbo Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 There's going to be a ton of sealer below the logo. So you don't have to sand to bare wood. Just sand evenly until the logo is gone and you'll be able to finish right over the sealer, with or without a new logo. I don't know what your guitar looks like or what color it is, but personally I like when a strat headstock is painted gloss black. Quote
