What kind of bridge are you using? When I built my bass, I avoided using a neck angle because I wasn't experienced at all in luthery (it was my first instrument, with it being a neck thru on top of it). As I understand, unless you are using a TOM bridge, you really don't need a neck angle.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

When I cut the profile of the block. I keep the top of the neck (suface for fretboard) square. I cut the headstock angle, and cut the body at the proper angle. It is really easy and does not waste much wood. Plus it allows me to maintain the most critical surface square to the block.

technically you need a neck angle no matter what bridge your using, however there are some things you can do to avoid this (recess your bridge, works very well with floyds and TOM's) but its not all that tough to do neck angle on guitar, just draw out everything first, figure out your neck angle(theres a tut perry did here thats pretty easy) and go to town on it, just take your time and you will have an awesome guitar!

And to me. :D

Better tell Fender they're doing it all wrong.
