pickup wiring question

Hey, what is ''standard 4 conductor'' wiring on pickups?...

it is a pickup with four wires running from it.the purpose is that you can wire it (if you want to) to a coil splitter and use it both as a single coil and a humbucker.if you only want to use it as a humbucker you just wire 2 of the wires together and solder them.which 2 depends on the model of pickup.check this schematic out

notice the red and white wires are soldered together.

now look at this one

notice the bridge pickup is wired to the 5 way in such a way that the coils are split
