iskim86 Posted June 16, 2005 Report Posted June 16, 2005 the action on my guitar is higher on the 12th fret than it is on the 24th. ***? it this a common occurance? isn't it supposed to be higher as it goes up the neck? thanks Quote
feylya Posted June 16, 2005 Report Posted June 16, 2005 Check the neck relief. The neck should be nearly straight with the strings in tune. If not, check the Project Guitar homepage for a tutorial on setting up a guitar. Oh, and use the Search function in future. Quote
Devon Headen Posted June 16, 2005 Report Posted June 16, 2005 Sounds like you've got rise in tongue. Sucky problem to have. Depending on how sever it is, you'll probably have to do a partial refret to fix it properly. Quote
westhemann Posted June 16, 2005 Report Posted June 16, 2005 i agree with feylya...very likely you just have improper neck relief. by the way..i run all of my necks dead straight...no relief...they just play better that way...but to achieve this you really need a dual action truss rod as they exert much more force on the neck. Stickmangumby Posted June 17, 2005 Report Posted June 17, 2005 Yes, it sounds a lot like you have too much relief in your neck. Try to straighten it out as much as possible; make it straight, check it for fret buzzing all up and down the neck, then add relief until the buzzing goes away. Quote
Devon Headen Posted June 17, 2005 Report Posted June 17, 2005 Relief being adjusted at the 12th? I guess you can give it a shot, but unless your neck is WAY out, I wouldn't think the 12th/24th relationship would be too screwed up. Quote
iskim86 Posted June 17, 2005 Author Report Posted June 17, 2005 my relief isn't that bad. and i did follow the typical set-up routine, loosen the truss rod until fret buzz goes away. but to eliminate all buzz from the guitar, i would have to raise the action to like half an inch! and even worse, I can't seem to intonate the three low strings either. westhemann Posted June 17, 2005 Report Posted June 17, 2005 then add relief until the buzzing goes away. that makes zero sense and i did follow the typical set-up routine, loosen the truss rod until fret buzz goes away. what the hell?if you are this clueless you need to study the set up procedures quite a bit better.
