weston
im new to the guitar world. I picked up my friends fender strat for cheap. there are a few minor scratches in the body and th pickguard was spraypainted green, which is starting to scratch off due to not using the right stuff for the job and the body is black. i would like to get a new look for the guitar. can i completely take the guitar apart, repaint and change the pickguard to 1/8" aluminum? and can i paint over the gloss coat. and will any of these changes affect the sound of the guitar? Yes, plenty of info on this site about painting. Yes. In the meantime, you can clean off the existing pickguard, a little naptha will do it. It's easy enough to sand off the existing finish, take it down to the sealer, then repaint. For the sound, well, you never know...unlikely...
