Repairing A Cracked Bass Headstock

Recommended Posts

I am in the process of trying to restore an Ibanez Prestige Soundgear to playing condition - it's previous owner took a tumble from a stage and cracked the headstock in two places, from the nut, halfway up the headstock, through the first 2 tuner holes on each side. I know that the best way to affect this repair is to glue the cracks using hide glue, but I am unsure of 2 things; 1) What is the best method for spreading the crack to allow the syrince in, and 2) will I also need to pin the headstock using dowels? If so, what is the best approach for pinning a headstock?

Thanks in advance,

Mark DeVille
