Thoughtless 7 Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 On my guitar (7string) everytime i hold slightly tigher on the 7th and 6th strings they go slightly sharp. I am using 10s and a .54 for the 7th. Any idea on what could be causing this? I'm not pushing down with much force at all which makes me wonder why its doing this. Suggestions? Quote
unclej Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 the first thing that comes to mind is that if you're using large frets when you press down the string has enough room to travel that it's actually stretching it and making it sharp...does it do it all up and down the neck or just in certain positions? by the way, is the fretboard scalloped by any chance? Devon Headen Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 I vote for the jumbo frets. Lighten up your touch so you're just putting enough pressure to get the note to ring out. Most 7s I've played had jumbo frets. Granted I've only played a couple, but I'm about 90% that's your problem. Quote
Thoughtless 7 Posted July 28, 2005 Author Report Posted July 28, 2005 Its any fret passed the 4th fret. And nope, its not scalloped. The fret size is medium, not jumbo... Quote
Guitarfrenzy Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 First question I have for you is, how much relief do you have in the neck? Measure around the 7th fret area with a straightedge and set of feeler guages and let us know what you find. Quote
thegarehanman Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Even better questions, did you slot and fret the neck yourself? Or did you install the bridge yourself(and position it)? Has your guitar been set up? Were the saddles adjusted to compensate and intonate? Quote
Thoughtless 7 Posted July 28, 2005 Author Report Posted July 28, 2005 Guitarfrenzy just confused me... thegarehanman, Ibanez did my neck and bridge and it has been set up. Now that you mention the bridge, i have packed wood blocked behind it so it doesn't move anymore. Its like a standard strat trem excecpt it floats on two pegs instead of being screwed in... Quote
