hate_everything
Hi guys. I just bought a set of EMG's and tried putting them into my BC Rich Warlock but i failed. I emailed EMG Tech a few times but they cant help me anymore im sure they have a lot to do. So anyway, one of the biggest problems i had was extending the wires between the volume and tone pots. Has anyone ever doe this??? I think i screwed it up... There are two wires there, just an ordinary wire and also an un-insulated wire with a capacitator on it. i extended the uninsulated wire with an ordinary INSULATED wire... is this a problem?? Has anyone evr extended a wire??? Also, the pickups only respond when the lead is halfway in.. cause you list any possible causes for this?? I checked the quick-connect cable polarities.. it seems ok. Im gonna rewire my whole Warlock again and if its still **** ill get it serviced. But PLEASE help me before then... Thanks, John R
Setch
You have the terminals reversed for the battery lead and one side of the signal. The stereo jack used with EMG's has 3 connections: -Signal(hot) -Battery -Ground(earth) The battery lead allows the battery to be disconnected from the circuit by unplugging the jack. If you mix up your socket connections the lead will contact earth and signal whilst partially in, but then short them when fully inserted. Unsolder the middle terminal and switch it with one of the others. There are only 3 terminals, so it should be a quick fix.

I KNEW it was something with the polarities, but couldnt figure out where. What about my extending of the wires to suit my guitar???... A knowledgeable friend of mine told me there will be more feedback... since i play very high-gain stuff, i kinda don't want more feedback. Will there be a big effect on the feedback from this? any tips for minimizing??. Once again thanks, you cant trust guitar techs round here. he said it would take roughly 4 hours... barstard. westhemann
you will have no feedback...emgs are chosen specifically because they are quiet under high gain...
philkilla666
Hello, I am afraid that I am having a similar problem with my guitar. It is loaded with a single EMG 81-7 (seven string pickup) and an EMG PA-2. The other night I switched the battery from a philips 9-volt to a duracel ultra 9-volt. Now the tone is complete lackluster, and the mini toggle for the PA-2 will not go in the off position (that is just a part malfunction, I understand that). Even when the PA-2 is in the on position, there is barely any gain, and it is driving me crazy!!! Also, if the volume is all the way off, and my hands are not touching either the volume knob, or the mini toggle there is buzzing. What gives? crafty
Your PA-2 is malfunctioning. Either fix it or get a new one.

Wonder what happens when you change the strings... But all kiddings aside, I guess there was a loose wire and it eventually broke when you changed the battery, just by moving things around. Just take a look and see if there is no loose wire somewhere in there.
hate_everything
NOoooo! I changed the polarities on the output aND IT STILL DOESNT WORK! noooooooo. any more ideas???
rhoads56
rewire the entire thing as per the diagram supplied.
crafty
Or take it to a tech who knows what he's doing with a soldering iron...there's no excuse for burning up a $200 set of pickups because you don't know what you're doing and you're trying to learn--that's what a set of $10 imported passive 'buckers are for.
