Kyle Cavanaugh Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 Hi guys, I just tore apart my cheap floyd rose copy to clean of tobacco smoke and other junk. It has a diecast base to it with a rather low iron content (magnet test). I happen to have laying around a base plate made of stamped steel (like an a original) and it has all the same dimensions except that I'd have to drill and countersink the holes for the screws that hold the trem block on it slightly larger. What kind of tonal differences exist in these two and which is most recommended? Quote
thewrathofraf Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 im not sure that u would get much tonal difference. from my understanding its just a difference in stregth of the tremolo, but my knowledge on this is minimal so i could be worng. -RAF Quote
jer7440 Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 The diecast base is just known to wear out faster in the knife edge, the stamped steel will wear much better. Quote
