Scott Rosenberger Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 The Standard is generally Mahogany or Alder, however you can use whatever gets you excited. There are no rules. Quote
blackburncustomguitars Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 Hi, When it comes to "wings" with a maple neck-thru, I've had very good success with swamp ash, Korina, and mahogany. Peace, Davei will be making a guitar that is a neck-thru and will have an Eastern Flamed Maple neck and i was just wondering if anyone has any sugestions for a type of wood for the wings. any help is greatly appreciated ← Quote
SoundAt11 Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 Mahogany is nice, that's what I used. Just be aware that the neck-thru wood is going to make up a large percentage of your overal sound. Be careful with your choice of pickups to, a Ceramic bridge p'up in a maple neck-thru can be rather harse (what I used). Quote
stiggz Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 as has been said before you are only limited by ur imagination, and the size of ur wallet. ive had good success with indonesian amoora, i had some sitting around so i used it sounds warm-ish, pretty well rounded ash is also a good 1 to use, heard many good things bout it luke Quote
