Lietuvis Posted August 11, 2005 Report Posted August 11, 2005 I was wondering if anyone here knows the length of a Gibson Explorer's body, from the end of the fretboard to around strap button. I'm going to buy a neck-thru neck from Carvin, and the neck extends for 13" after the 24-fret, and I was wondering if this is enough to make an Explorer, or if I will need to add a block of wood at the end... Basically, this is the length I need: (the red line) Thanks! Quote
Lietuvis Posted August 11, 2005 Author Report Posted August 11, 2005 What just happened? My topic posted 4 times! AHHHHH! Mod, can you delete the other copies, please? Quote
Primal Posted August 11, 2005 Report Posted August 11, 2005 I believe that is quite a bit more than 13". Quote
westhemann Posted August 11, 2005 Report Posted August 11, 2005 close to 16 1/2" at the longest point. you could take that neck through blank and turn it into a set neck with a tenon that extends through the neck pickup rout...then you could sculpt the heel to have access like a neck through Quote
Lietuvis Posted August 11, 2005 Author Report Posted August 11, 2005 /\/\/\ That's a very good idea, although I might extend it even further, maybe to the bridge pickup, too? Quote
dash Posted August 12, 2005 Report Posted August 12, 2005 (edited) there is a plan of an explorer here. dunno if its to scale. but i would assume it is you'll need a cad program or similar cheers darren Edited August 12, 2005 by dash Quote
Pr3Va1L Posted August 12, 2005 Report Posted August 12, 2005 btw, the carvin neck is just so wonderfully made... it's beautyful! just remember it's 25" scale, not 24.75 like the explorer. Quote
Lietuvis Posted August 12, 2005 Author Report Posted August 12, 2005 Thanks for the info! Ya, I'm going to make the explorer to a scale of 25, like the Carvin neck.... I'm not quite sure if I should make something more like a Jackson Kelly, or more of a traditional Explorer shape... right now I'm kinda leaning towards the Kelly... Quote
