b5111987
right im going to make and new guitar it goin to be a sort of standard ibanez shape but the bridge is going to be an elecro-acoustic one with an under saddle pickup with a preamp and also im goin to have a normal pickup in the brigde position. all hooked up to a 3 way switch so i can have acoustic, both and elecric tones 1: now will the acoustic bridge with the preamp give me acoustic tones if its a solid body or should i hollow it out and put a top on it 2: what exactly are f cuts for do i need them if it is going to be hollowed out 3: whats the diffrenc in acoustic and elecric strings. i meen if i build this and use electric string will it sound more like and electric or if i use acoustic will it sound more acoustic this is goin to be primerily and acoustic tone guitar i just wanted a bridge pickup incase half way through a song i want to go into mega distortion i figure and pickup will sound better that and under saddle one, am i right? mledbetter
you need to do some research. You're asking more than anyone could possibly spell out for you in this way, but luckily 99% of it is just a google search away. As for the acoustic stuff, if you understand how the pickup works you'lll answer your own questions, so I would start there.
bluespresence
Go to your local music shop and play a Schecter C1-E/A if they have one and it will answer all of your questions. Take a look here: C-1 E/A And check out Harmony Central for reviews and comments on the C-1 E/A and similar models by other manufacturers. 1: now will the acoustic bridge with the preamp give me acoustic tones if its a solid body or should i hollow it out and put a top on it IMO you should at least have a semi-hollow body with the piezo. 3: whats the diffrenc in acoustic and elecric strings. i meen if i build this and use electric string will it sound more like and electric or if i use acoustic will it sound more acoustic Use electric strings. The bridge mounted pickups like the TonePros are specifically designed for this type of application. Also to repeat what mled sadi.....you need to do a google search or three. Check out "bridge mounted piezo", "electric-acoustic", etc.......have fun!
marksound
Also you could look up Hamer DuoTone and Carvin AE185. They are both semihollow electrics with acoustic type bridges.

b5111987
ok so im gonna use an acoustic bridge with a under saddle pickup thing and a pre amp im gonna semi- hollow out the body 1: iv used acoustic strings on an electric guitar before with no problem but i want to know if they make any diffrence to tone - and as i said before this is primerily use as an acoustic guitar so if acoustic string will sound better then ill use them 2: f cuts do i need them - what exactly are they for
stageleft
The "F" holes serve the same function as the sound hole on a regular acoustic, they allow more air movement and sound projection.

bluespresence
You only need what your ears like to hear. Go play several different guitars that are set up this way and decide what YOU like. Our opinion is not going to make a hoot of difference if you build it "our" way and you think the sound and tone suck..... but as its not going to be used without an amp would i really need one The "F" holes will make a tone difference. To me a chambered or semi hollow without "F" holes sounds growly or muddy (not in a bad way) and those with "F" holes sound a bit brighter. Again......that's MY ears talking, yours may hear them completely differently. I'm also mainly a bass player so I like growly and muddy, most guitar players I know do not like muddy, they like a nice clean tone that can be manipulated with pedals if desired. If you're not using the ghost saddles then you need to find a Hamer DuoTone and play that. It is set up with the bone saddle with piezo under. IMO it is an EXCELLENT sounding guitar that sounds like no other. It is one of my personal favorites. Be careful if this is your first build and make sure you get the bridge and saddle placed properly. Hamer had some problems when they first built this model and made an intonation nightmare for many, many customers and dealers that had to correct them.
