chrissh Posted August 25, 2005 Report Posted August 25, 2005 Hi,folks I'm new here, and having trouble figuring out how to wire a guitar for a friend. It's a Parker NiteFly,with one volume/one tone controls, and he wants it rewired so the tone becomes a bass roll-off control, like his G&L Comanche. I was offered the advice to wire it according to the image posted here, and I used the pot and cap values from a G&L schematic.I've tried both .022 and .047 caps with a 1Meg pot,and I can't hear a bit of difference in any of the new bass control's settings;I really don't think it's doing anything. I only have very basic guitar electronics experience,so I'm not sure what else to try.Any ideas? Thanks for looking. Quote

chrissh Posted August 25, 2005 Author Report Posted August 25, 2005 (edited) Thank you, really I'm impressed.I'd have searched, but thought for sure it would've been fruitless.Sorry I underestimated..you are certainly on top here. So,the cap bridges the two outside lugs, and the center lug joins the cap at the outside lug("in")?Or the center lug runs to ground on top of the pot)? And,in the case of the image I show here, what might the "in" and "out" of your diagram pertain to?That is,from where on the volume pot does the "in" arrive to the bass pot? Thanks for humoring me. lovekraft Posted August 25, 2005 Report Posted August 25, 2005 I'd have searched, but thought for sure it would've been fruitless. No worries - there's only been a handful of people curious enough to even bother taking a look at it. ...what might the "in" and "out" of your diagram pertain to? Sorry, that's not really very clear, is it? IN is from the pickup, and OUT is to the selector switch, tone control, or whatever is next in line. And for all intents and purposes, the layout diagram is upside down (compared to the schematic). So,the cap bridges the two outside lugs, and the center lug joins the cap at the outside lug("in")?That's correct - there's no ground connection in this circuit, period (although grounding the pot shell for shielding is not a bad idea). Basically, as the pot's resistance gets lower, it shorts out the cap, so at "wide open", there's no bass attenuation at all. Let me know how it works for you, and if he's happy with it. Quote
chrissh Posted August 27, 2005 Author Report Posted August 27, 2005 Thanks lots..I'll give this a try asap, and let you know how it goes Quote
