86barettaguy
Just wondering how you go about installing strat-style jackplates on guitars that haven't been routed for them. How do you rout the cavity?
Brian
For a standard Strat jack you need to route out the cavity and drill a hole between it and the control cavity for the wires to run through. You can make a simple template buy turning the jack face down and tracing around it, be sure you mark the mounting screw holes. Then draw a smaller oblong circle inside of that for the cavity you need so the jack will fit down properly and cut it out to use as your template for positioning and routing it. I route them freehand but usually start the cavity with a large drill bit so the router bit can fit down inside easily.
westhemann
i do it the same way brian is talking about but instead of drilling to the control cavity i just put it right up against it.that way all the wiring can be reached from inside the control cavity
