bobnickelson
I'm trying to find out info on a SX Les Paul copy that i bought, basicly what year it is and what it retials for. I've checked http://www.sxguitarspain.com/ but all the lps there look different then mine, (non-cutaway part turns into the neck it meets with a 90 degree angle, not like the ones on the site that curve right before they hit the neck) Also theres a bit of fret buz which is pretty bad at the lower frets and lessens at the higher ones, some of the higher ones look like they have been sanded down. The truss rod looks stripped, but i don't have an allen key at the moment to try it out. So if i were to try the truss rod and that doesn't work would refreting fix it? Also what is the range in price for refretting a neck professionally?

How much did you pay for it? If the truss rod doesn't work, and it needs a fret job, it probably isn't worth very much.
lovekraft
Before you worry about refretting, follow the instructions on the main site here ( http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/tutorial1.htm ), and do a complete setup on the guitar, adjusting the bridge height, nut height, intonation and neck relief as best you can. If it still buzzes, but only in certain spots, chances are you've got a high fret or two, and the frets need to be dressed and crowned ( http://mywebpages.comcast.net/skgs/sk/fretcrowning.htm ). Be sure to start with new strings when doing the setup, and it'll help to clean everything up before you start. Those procedures will fix 99.9% of all playability problems in any guitar that doesn't have serious structural or wear problems.

I've checked ← Any chance you can return the guitar? SX is a brand applied to Chinese-built guitars imported into the US by a company called Rondo. They also have the Agile brand. If your guitar is one of these, then there's no point in finding out what 'year' it is, because it'll never be vintage. On the other hand, I hope you didn't pay too much for it. I imagine a used SX is worth about half the price of a new one, if it's in good condition. Here's the link for Rondo in the US--maybe your guitar is on this page? Looks like it's the same logo. If you can't return the guitar, at least you'll have fun learning how to fix it. This site is great for that.

Looks like it's the same logo OK, I just looked at that site... How in the h*ll can you sell a guitar for $70?!?!?!?!?!?!?! If you take out the profit and manufacturing costs, you're down to maybe $10 for materials. Granted, they're obviously not stellar pieces, but still.... lovekraft
Keep it in perspective - in China, $10USD will likely feed a family of 5 for a week!
