Thingfish
Can spruce or cedar be used in electric guitars. Since they are traditional tonewoods for classical and acoustic I thought hey may work. Has anybody tried this? Mattia
I know some people who've built electrics with solid spruce, redwood, western red cedar bodies. By all acounts, very lively, resonant acoustic tones, but all of these woods will dent very easily if you just look at them askance.
Phil Mailloux
I saw a bass made by a local luthier who used spanish cedar as a body along with a burl top. Very beautiful and extremely light bass.
Mattia
Spanish Cedar is in the mahogany family, though, and a very common neck wood on classical guitars. Completely different 'cedar' to Western Red cedar (although none of these cedars are true cedars, actually).
