M_A_T_T
Would rough-carving the neck with a router (round over bit...) be a good idea? I mean, it wouldn't do a full job, but it would remove lots of wood pretty fast...? ← I used a 45 degree chamfer bit on a bass neck to remove a good protion of the material. Helped alot. erikbojerik
I used a 7/8" roundover bit with the router suspended in a duplicarver; there's a template under the neck for the bearing to ride on, the template was cut to give the proper amount of neck taper. Still had a lot of sanding to do afterward though. You could also do it with a large-enough router table as long as the heel and headstock ends were still bulky and square.
