So you pull them up not knock them out from the side?

So I guess it doesn't end up ripping the wood of the fret board?

Depends on if it's an older Fender neck, which the frets was slid in from the sides. If that's the case then yes, you will use something to knock them out from the side. Try pulling one first if your not certain, and if you have a lot of chipout on the wood, you need to use the side knock method. Unless you have a Fender neck that is older, then you shouldn't have any problems using the solder iron and fret puller method. Good luck
