vaxination Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 when fretting up your necks, what do you do for the glue stains on the fretboard (using CA glue, that is). Quote
doug Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 If you're going to CA your frets in then put several treatments of tung oil on first to seal the surface. Be sure it has dried overnight. Use something pointed to "wick" some CA in at the ends so it doesn't come out on the surface. If you get some on the fingerboard then use acetone to clean it up. They make CA remover, but acetone works well too. -Doug Quote
Mattia Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 Easier, less permanent: apply a coat or two of wax (carnuba's the one I see mentioned most often) to the fingerboard before futzing about with CA. Quote
Setch Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 Alternatively, don't get CA on the fretboard face! I apply a small drop to each fret-end, from the back, before trimming the overhang. Catch any that gets on the fretboard face with a rag dampened with acetone - it comes off a treat if you get it whilst it's wet, but once it's dried I've found scraping it back to wood the only way to get rid of it. Scott Rosenberger Posted December 23, 2005 Report Posted December 23, 2005 I use CA in the whole slot on my fret jobs, if I get some on the face of the baord I wipe in the direction of the slot with an Acetone soaked rag BEFORE I press the fret in Quote
