cole Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 I've been thinking of getting a brass nut for my strat and I found this on ebay http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c25/Cole_01/1.jpg ...I was just wondering, wouldn't this create really bad buzzing? and one more question, how good is pre-ban ivory for nuts I've heard good but any body know anything about it? soapbarstrat Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 I might make a nut like that for a set-up tool ; something to test out how low the strings can go at the nut. The problem with it, is that you want the string slots to be at an angle, with the highest point near the first fret. Well, if you make those slots in the screws slanted like that, that means you have to turn the screw a full 360 degress to make any kind of change. If you want to lower the string, say .003", I think a full turn of the screw would lower it more than that. I'm guessing, but my guesses are usually "educated guesses". If you want a real brass nut, buy a strip of brass. It's not that hard to work with. Quote
Setch Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 If you want slanted slots, angle the screw, not the slot. That way, the string is always nicely ramped, and you can adjust in quarter turn increments. Quote
