extremecustoms Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 I found an awesome bodies guitar that I'd like to make into a bass, what all do I need to take into consideration, and is it possible to make it work? Quote
Kirk Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 The distance from the bridge to the nut is going to be different, and the width of a bass neck/fretboard is going to be wider. So once you route the neck joint to the proper spec, and get the bridge in its proper place, it should be smooth sailing. Everything else is just wiring? You could probably have a body made in the style you want for pennies these days, what with all the online vendors, why not just buy a new one? Quote
extremecustoms Posted August 21, 2003 Author Report Posted August 21, 2003 I can't find a BC Rich Ironbird in bass format... lol If I could find one of those in need of finishing, I'd be on it in a second. Quote
G_urr_A Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 Or you could get a 6 string bass by changing strings. I guess you'd need about 0.020-0.90 to be able to tune down that far, but if you can get strigns that fat, it's the easiest way. Quote
westhemann Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 basses are generally 32" to 36" scale aren't they?just putting on different strings isn't gonna do it. Quote
