Renrutmada Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 I plan to make an electric guitar that looks like an acoustic, so I'm wondering what woods would give me the warmest tone, and the same for pickups. Also, what effect would making it semi-hollowbody have on the overall sound? Quote
Nitefly SA Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 will it look like a full on acoustic or a semi hollow? Mahogany a very warm wood, alnico magnet(ed) pickups are the warmest/smoothist/most "classic" sounding Quote
Renrutmada Posted January 9, 2006 Author Report Posted January 9, 2006 The idea is to make it look like an acoustic only... thinner, probably with a cutout, but not 100% decided on that yet. I do plan to put in a rosette and acoustic style pickguard, there just won't be a soundhole. Quote
Mickguard Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 You mean kind of like the Danelectro Convertible? Quote
tirapop Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 Maybe something like these Gibsons? Quote
Renrutmada Posted January 11, 2006 Author Report Posted January 11, 2006 Not quite, it's a completely solid body electric, it just looks like an acoustic so it'll have pickups, volume and tone control knobs, etc. I think I may actually inlay a circle of ebony to look like a soundhole and I could "hide" the pickup(s) by mounting them right inside that circle. And I have no idea what the danelectro convertable is. Neat name though. Quote
Mickguard Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 Google is your friend... But again, this is a hollowbody...well, sort of. It's not exactly made of wood... Quote
marksound Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 Like one of them Rick Turner deals, then? Quote
Mickguard Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 Like one of them Rick Turner deals, then? ← So, are YOU Google? You seem to have a link for everything! Cool guitars on this one...love the 'rotating' pickup...I was playing around with that idea too, but this guy found a great way to implement it. Quote
marksound Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 Yeah, Lindsey Buckingham has been playing a Turner for a loooong time. Quote
