Black Walnut For Sale

I recently bought a batch of Black Walnut and wondered if anyone needs any?

There are 2 boards, each is 2 1/4" thick, both are between 6-8" wide, and are approx 10 feet long. It's pretty nice stuff, nice and chocolate colored with the wavy streaks of red and such. No "flame" or burl figuring, just regular brown Walnut.

I'd be happy to cut it into neck or body sized blanks if anyone is interested, and also neck laminate strips.

I'll post some pics either Wednesday or Thursday.

Just post your specs here and I'll figure up a price. If you need a certain thickness body blank, I can cut it down, which means I may have some thin Walnut guitar tops left over:-)

thanks again,

Will

I might be interested in some laminate strips. Just like thin ones... maybe medium? But I just get the feeling with something that minicule the shipping will be more than the wood hahahaha lol

Chris

Probably so:-)

What kind of widths and lenghes would you need?

Here's some small photos of the walnut:

probably something like two pieces, both 2 x 1.5 x 28"

I'm thinking of doing a laminate that's like a half inch of flamed maple in the center, sandwiches by stripes of purpleheart at about 1/8" and then sandwich that with 1.5 inches of walnut on either side.

I'm still kinda skeptical though cause my flamed maple is only 2" thick... so that'd leave JUST enough wood to make my 13 degree headstock angle...

Scarf joint, cough, cough. You know, after that episode about the white limba, I'd think you'd have already realised a scarf joint is the way to go to save wood and money(not to mention make the headstock stronger). And yes, you can line the laminates up well enough to make the scarf barely(if at all) noticeable.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread but I gotta reply to garehan. The 2" notion was actually more in of a general question, not about the laminate neck. I have no problem doing a scarf on this pending laminate neck idea, my 2" thick with 13 degree headstock peril is my newly aquired 4 x 2 x 30 flamed maple neck blank... THAT I do NOT want to scarf :D

Chris

PS: I ended up just buying the black limba after all hahahahaha. So I've got two nice new blanks coming from Gilmer, one black limba, one Alder :D (take a look if you want... #IW5788A and #IW7907C in the solidbody blank section)

For that, it'd be around $20 as you're basically buying a Walnut neck blank and slicing it in half.

That 2 1/4" thick Black Walnut is expensive; it costs me more than Honduran Mahogany.

I've Purpleheart if you need some of that to.

I've probably got some cut-off scraps of those dimensions, just figure $5 for them.

On my neck-thru, it's 1 3/4" maple and the tilt-back headstock is still one solid piece (no scarf joint) and doesn't dip below the 1 3/4" mark.

Yeah, see I'm sorry, it's just not worth $20 to me (I already have the purpleheart too). I can get a mahogany blank for $12, a flamed maple for $30... plus I've already got a purple heart scarfed blank, mahogany scarfed blank, flamed solid blank.... I actually don't NEED any more blanks hahahaha, I was just seeing out of interest. But yeah, like I said, sorry, not worth the $20 +shipping to me just to experiment with laminates. But thanks anyways man.

Hmmm... I think you have to figure time to cut and surface a piece of wood is worth something. Unless you can process several similar pieces at one time. Selling a small one off piece is not very profitable. I thought I should point that out. Chris you should collect a pile of stock for your laminates. Since you have the ability to process the material yourself it will never be cost effective for you to buy small pieces (nor will it ever be a good deal for the fella selling special small cuts like that, unless they have already processed large quantities of laminate material.). Oh the joys of selling wood :D .

Peace and good luck,Rich

Actually that would be good as long as it's good and straight my body is 12 1/2 inches wide and 18 inches long.

That's definitely do-able. I could do a book matched set for you. I'll PM you some prices later tonight or in the AM.

I posted some more pics in the Yahoo Photos link above.

No pm for in my box thanks. Blake

I was having problems send IM's the other day, maybe that was one of them.

Anywho, it'd be around $30 for one like that. Shipping shouldn't be too much (assuming you're in the USA).

Just let me know if you're interested, I'm going to buy a new planer later today, so I'm ready to make some :D tops

There's a little bit of background curl figuring that the camera doesn't really pick up, but should be nice and subtle once you put a clear finish on it.

The bookmatch looks a little off. Is one of the sides wrong face up? Maybe it is just the picture. Walnut is such a nice looking wood.

Peace,Rich
